Wysada Celebrates International Woman’s Day

Every year on the 8th March, thousands of events are held across the globe to inspire women and celebrate achievements.

Since the celebration was born in the 1900’s, International Women’s Day  has continued to grow and is now an international sensation with dedicated events spanning from business conferences to craft workshops.

To mark the occasion we have chosen three women from the Middle East that we believe are inspirational to us all –  Check out who we chose below.

Queen-Rania-Of-Jordan

Queen Rania of Jordan supports and initiates a number of beneficial schemes in society, across Jordan and further afield. Her continued efforts concentrate mainly on the education of children, and the support and opportunities they should receive. Queen Rania established the Jordan River Foundation that aims to put the needs of children above political agenda and cultural taboos.

Muna-AbuSulayman

Muna AbuSulayman was Saudi Arabia’s first woman to be appointed by the United Nations as a “Goodwill Ambassador”. A prominent a public and media personality, AbuSulayman is a staunch supporter of women’s rights, community development, and building bridges of understanding between the East and West. In 2004, Ms. AbuSulayman was named a Young Leader by the World Economic Forum.   In 2007, the Middle East Excellence Awards Institute presented Ms. AbuSulayman the Achievements in Regional and International Relations Award, one of many of her prestigious accolades. In 2009, she was named one of the most influential Muslims in the world.

Muna also campaigns to unravel the stereotypes of what it means to be a modern Muslim women or a modern Saudi woman, which she does through her role as an advisory board member of the Muslim Women’s Fund (MWF) which aims to strengthen Muslim women, benefit families and communities.  Since 2004, Ms. AbuSulayman has served as a volunteer director for the Friends of Saudi Arabia Association and remains a member of the Saudi Media Association, and she also runs her own global fashion and accessory business.

Tawakkul-Karman

Tawakkol Abdel-Salam Karman is a Yemeni journalist, politician and senior member of the Al-Islah political party, a women’s rights activist and human rights activist. Karman is the driving force behind the revolutionary group – “Women Journalists without Chains,” which she co-founded in 2005. She became the international public face of the 2011 Yemeni uprising that is part of the Arab Spring uprisings, and is often dubbed the “Iron Woman” and “Mother of the Revolution” by Yemenis. Karman’s tireless campaigning was also recognised in 2011 when she was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, becoming the first Arab woman and Yemeni, and the second Muslim woman to win a Nobel Prize and the youngest Nobel Peace Laureate to do so.
