Keep Your Kids Toasty Warm

The crispy, cold winter season is back and we all worry about how to keep our children cozy and warm. When temperatures drop, children need extra attention to stay warm, safe and healthy.Young children are less likely to recognize when they are cold and more likely to lose body heat quickly due to their smaller size. Here are some tips to keeping your child warm and toasty in freezing conditions

  • Layer & layers: Put several layers of clothing on your child and make sure their head, neck and hands are covered. Dress babies and young children in one more layer than an adult would wear.
  • Check in on warmth: Tell children to come inside if they get wet or if they’re cold. Then keep watching them and checking in. They may prefer to continue playing outside even if they are wet or cold.



  • Comfy Winter boots: Boots should be roomy enough that if a child is wearing an extra pair of socks for warmth he or she can still wiggle their toes, it’s important for good circulation.
  • Use Sunscreen: Make no mistake: Sunburns aren’t exclusive to the warm summer months. You can still get sunburned during the winter. Sun rays reflect off the white snow and can really do some damage, so be sure to apply sunscreen to all exposed areas, especially during strenuous activity.
  • Keep Hydrated: In the drier winter air, kids lose more water through their breath. Keep them drinking throughout the day. Use their breaks from the snow as an opportunity to offer warm drinks and soup for an extra warming effect.

Last but not the least; don’t let the cold weather stop you and your family from spending time outdoors. If you gear up and take some precautions against the cold, your kids can benefit from all that fresh air and enjoy the great outdoors!
