When the chilly Winter weather hits warm yourself and your guests with a delicious hot drink. There is nothing better than wrapping your hands around a delicious, cup of hot cocoa. It seemed almost too good to be true when the news broke that chocolate was healthy, so no need to feel guilty about indulging this remarkable drink. Go ahead and check out these yummy, easy to make hot chocolate recipes.

 

Red Velvet

 

 

Red Velvet Hot Cocoa

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup of chopped bittersweet or semi-sweet chocolate {chocolate chips work well}
  • 1 – 1 1/2 tsp. red food coloring
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • for the whipped cream:
  • 1/4 cup of heavy cream
  • 1 Tbsp. powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla

 

Directions

  • Heat the milk over medium
  • Whisk in the chocolate, and stir until melted
  • Stir in the food coloring and the vanilla
  • Whip the cream with the sugar and vanilla
  • Serve the hot chocolate topped with whip and chocolate shavings

 

Caramel

 

 

Caramel Hot Cocoa

 

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk, preferably whole
  • 1/4 – 1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce, recipe link follows
  • Sweetened whipped cream or vanilla marshmallows
  • Grated chocolate for garnish, optional
  • Caramel sauce

 

Directions

  • Prepare caramel sauce according to directions listed and allow to cool slightly. Heat milk in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Once milk is warm, stir in chocolate chips and caramel, and cook whisking constantly until chocolate has melted.
  • Allow to cool slightly and serve warm topped, topped with sweetened whipped cream or miniature marshmallows, drizzle each serving with 1 Tbsp. caramel sauce and garnish with grated chocolate if desired

For a richer hot chocolate, you can use up to 1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chips and mix in more caramel sauce as well if desired

 

Mint

 

 

Mint Hot Cocoa

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of mint morsels
  • 4 cups of skim milk
  • Whipped cream for garnish

Directions

  • Heat milk in a saucepan over low heat – DO NOT allow to boil
  • Add mint morsels and stir until melted and mixture is smooth
  • Remove from heat, carefully ladle into mugs, and garnish with coarsely chopped mint morsels and whipped cream if desired

 

Standard

 

 

Standard Hot Cocoa

Ingredients

 

  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar (depending on how sweet you like it)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup milk or any combination of milk, half-and-half, or cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

 

Directions

  • Whisk together the cocoa, sugar, salt, and about 2 tablespoons milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until cocoa and sugar are dissolved
  • Whisk in the rest of the milk and heat it over medium heat, whisking occasionally, until it is hot. Stir in the vanilla and serve
  • If you like it frothy, blend it in the blender
  • This recipe multiplies easily. When you get up to a quart of milk, use 1/4 teaspoon salt
